I have a question about visas. I was born in China but am now an American citizen. I'll be studying abroad in France next year until the end of July, at which point I want to visit family in China for a little less than a month. Do I need to get a visa for China while I'm still in the States? Or do I need to get that visa in France at an American consulate? So confused. Thanks for the help.

no need to be confused.
1) Next year is still a long time to go - there will be some changes to the visa policy during that time.
2) A China Visa you need to apply either at a China Consulate or a China Embassy - not with the American Consulate.
3) Best is you apply the China Visa at your home country (in your case USA) ?
4) If your family is in China the best would be to get a confirmation from their side that you will stay at their house etc including their complete address, china ID card copy - then it should be no problem.
5)I am not 100% sure but I think you also can apply for the visa during you are in France - go to the next China Consulate or Embassy and ask them and have your documents at hand proving your chinese descent.
Then it should be no problem at all.

This should confirm that the current Chinese visa policy is temporary just for Games. Things should be back to normal after Oct 16. I was wondering why Forever Bright (http://www.fbt-chinavisa.com.hk/) had given the exact date of this visa measure back in early April: "We are informed by the China visa office that effective from 15 Apr 2008 there will be no more multi entry (F) visas available. For those who still need visas can only apply single or double entry visas instead (Duration of each stay is 30 days). All this will stay in place until 17 Oct 2008." Now it seems reasonable.
yes - this is exactly the time - frame.
Here's the next possible problem. It might now be difficult to send samples to China...

Hi, I want to ask something, I am confused with the rumors that are going around. I have a chinese visa, x type (student type) which valid until 31st of August 2008, I'm currently in macau for vacation purposes, I've been travelling in macau and hk for about 1 month (till now), and i wanted to come back to beijing, but I heard rumor that I can be rejected on spot? is it true? I have valid visa and ticket to beijing already, thx
