I was contacted on Friday by a mate who is the first person I know directly to have lost his job as a result of the visa issue. He can no longer travel into China regularly to visit suppliers so he can't do his job so he's been made redundant. Obviously as he was the link between the supplier and customer the factory in China will lose business as well.

I also received an email from UK - company's there have received a letter from the British Consulate in Beijing saying multiple entry visas are still available - but with the conditions of applying in the home country, having the proof of return flight and hotel and having an invite letter from a relevant Chinese government department (not a company).

Apparently Barbara Woodward in the Brit Consulate in Beijing thinks this will solve the problem - I think it's pretty clear that she has never been in business then.

If you are a Brit and have a problem still (!) you are invited to contact Gareth.Hoar@fco.gov.uk or Barbara (Barbara.Woodward@fco.gov.uk).

Have asked several suppliers in different provinces now to help to supply "the visa notification letter". Already they hinted at me that this pper probably not very easily to get issued. Lets see the result. But again, the impact of this regulations already shows mant effects - I have talked to some "quality controllers" - they are saying they are more busy in applying visa than in doing their work.
